Your guide on things to eat and drink in July across Chicago: breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, cocktails, craft beer and more.
1. Shrimp & Grits
The week only, Chef Ivy Carthen of Sweetwater is putting together a Cheddar Cheese Grits & Jumbo Shrimp dish, topped with sautéed apple wood smoked bacon. Along with the special limited dish, Chef Ivy recently helped revamp the Sweetwater menu, so check it out next time you are in the Loop.
2. Fish Tacos
Tacos are perfect summertime fare: fresh, tasty, and for a short moment you daydream that you are on your own island where you eat fish tacos everyday. Until the crowd at Old Town Pour House snap you back into reality when the seventh German goal goes in against poor Brazil. Go watch the World Cup final, and feast on the best fish tacos in the Old Town neighborhood.
3. Vander Mill Michigan Wit Cider
July is Cider Month at Howells & Hood! Often known for the largest draft beer system in the US, they also have an impressive range of ciders on their drink menu, and even a few that are limited and listed in-house only. One unique offering is the Vander Mill Michigan Wit – a cider in the style of a traditional Belgian Wit, spiced it with orange peel and coriander.
4. The Perfect Steak
Summer also means some serious time at the grill. Learn how to grill the perfect steak here, and you’ll be rewarded with the juiciest, greatest grilled steaks you have ever eaten. You are welcome.
5. More Cider & Perfectly Grilled Foods
We mentioned that Howells & Hood has a great selection of ciders on their menu, and they will be showing off a few rare options at their first Midsummer BBQ Cider Dinner on July 23rd. The dinner will kick-off with an exclusive firkin tapping by Vander Mill Ciders, and then you will spend a few hours of a gorgeous summer evening on the patio, learning about the cider making process and enjoying veal brats, grilled lobster rolls and other delights from Chef Scott Walton.
Enjoy!
